Privacy policy
Effective date: October 12, 2026
The short version
Residency collects no data. The developer receives nothing from the app: no location, no travel history, no personal information.
Your location and travel data
The places you have been, your day counts and your settings are stored only on your iPhone. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, the app's data is included in that backup, which belongs to you and is handled by Apple or by you. The developer cannot see it.
Location is used on the device to work out which state or country you are in. It is never sent to the developer. When a reading is close to a state or country border, the app may ask Apple’s location service (the one Apple Maps uses) which side of the border it is on; Apple’s privacy policy applies to that request.
States, not addresses
The app works out the state or country from your location, then keeps only the state, the time and a location rounded to about 7 miles. It keeps no addresses and no map of where you have been. Every day can be corrected, and a day you corrected is labelled as your own entry in reports.
TripIt
If you choose to connect TripIt, you sign in directly with TripIt inside a web view in the app. The sign-in goes to TripIt, not to the developer, and the app never sees your password. The app then reads trips from your own TripIt account and stores them on your iPhone. The address of your TripIt calendar feed, if you add it, is stored in the iPhone Keychain. TripIt's own privacy policy applies to your TripIt account.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple. The free trial needs no sign-up or payment. The developer receives no personal information about you from these purchases.
Feedback emails
If you send feedback, the app opens an email draft. It includes the app version, iOS version and iPhone model so problems can be looked into, plus whatever you write. You can edit or delete anything before sending. Nothing is sent unless you press send.
No analytics, ads or tracking
The app has no analytics, no advertising, no crash-reporting service and no tracking of any kind.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
